BUMRUNGRAD INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL CONFIRMS ITS ABILITY TO MANAGE MERS-COV

In accordance with the CDC and Ministry of Public Health recommendations Bumrungrad International Hospital has had a world-class monitoring system and protocol for prevention measures against MERS-COV since 2013.

To clarify the Ministry of Public Health announcement on June 18, 2015 Bumrungrad
International Hospital confirms a Middle East male patient aged 75 has presented to our hospital emergency room on June 15, 2015 with flu-like symptoms. The hospital carried out appropriate screening and evaluation in accordance with our preventive measure protocol and the patient was assessed as high risk for MERS-COV. The patient was isolated in our Airborne Infections Isolation Room and the Ministry of Public Health was advised. In accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US CDC the hospital sent four separate samples for testing. On confirmation the patient tested positive for MERS the patient was transferred to Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute in Nontaburi on the morning of June 18, 2015.

There are no current or suspected cases of MERS-COV in Bumrungrad International
Hospital. The hospital continues to strictly monitor and screen all patients, families and staff who have had possible exposure. The hospital continues to closely coordinate our care and disease surveillance with the CDC, Department of Disease Control and the Thai Ministry of Public Health.
